Cambridge IGCSE AdditionalMaths 

Subject Information

Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics is a free standing course for the more able learners who  wish to be challenged and stretched in maths. It is assumed that learners who choose Additional Maths already have a sound understanding of the topics in the IGCSE Mathematics course.  For this subject candidates are eligible for grades A* to E. (9 to 4) Grades F and G will not be available. Candidates who do not achieve the minimum mark for grade E will be unclassified.

Additional Maths consolidates and extends learners' mathematical skills, and uses these in the context of more advanced techniques than those in IGCSE Maths. Learners will further develop their knowledge of mathematical concepts and principles, and use this knowledge for problem solving.

This course is an excellent foundation for for further study in maths at A Level or IB Higher Level.

All candidates will study the following topics:

  3. Equations, inequalities and graphs
  4. Indices and surds
  5. Factors of polynomials
  6. Simultaneous equations
  7. Logarithmic and exponential functions
  8. Straight line graphs
  9. Circular measure
  10. Trigonometry
  11. Permutations and combinations
  12. Series
  13. Vectors in two dimensions
  14. Differentiation and integration

Additional Maths Exam Papers

All students sit two papers:

Paper 1: Candidates answer all questions 2 hours (50% of marks)
Paper 2: Candidates answer all questions 2 hours (50%)

Prior Learning​​ & ​Hours of Study

  • It is recommend that learners starting the IGCSE Additional Maths course have studied a mathematics curriculum such as IGCSE Mathematics and prior to that have studied an international maths programme or equivalent national educational framework for at least 3 years.
  • It is recommended that 130 hours should be dedicated to complete this subject.​​
