Subject Information
Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics provides a strong foundation of mathematical knowledge, both for those who wish to study maths at a higher level, and those who will require maths to support skills in other subjects. Students may take the course at Extended level (up to grade A* or 9), or at Core level (up to grade C or 5). This allows all candidates to achieve and progress in their mathematical studies.
This course helps learners to develop a feel for quantity, patterns and relationships. Learners will develop their reasoning, problem-solving and analytical skills in a variety of abstract and real-life contexts.
Many universities require a combination of Cambridge International A Levels and Cambridge IGCSEs in Maths and English or equivalent to meet their entry requirements.

Core and Extended PapersTo take into account of differing abilities, there is a choice between Core and Extended curriculum papers in biology.
The Core curriculum is within the ability range of a large majority of students. It provides a full overview of the subject and is targeted at students expected to achieve grades C to G (levels 5 to 1). The Extended curriculum has been designed for the more academically able. It is targeted at those expected to achieve grades A* to E (levels 9 - 4). Please go to Preparing for Taking Exams IGCSE for more information. |
Maths Exam PapersAll students sit two papers:
Core students take: Paper 1: Short Answer Questions 1 hour (35% of the marks) Paper 3: Structured Questions 2 hours (65% ) Extended students take: Paper 2: Short Answer Questions 1 hour 30 minutes (35%) Paper 4: Structured Questions 2 hours 30 minutes (65%) Students require a scientific calculator for all papers Course codes: 0980 (1-9), 0580 (*A-G) |
