Subject Information

The Cambridge IGCSE Economics syllabus develops an understanding of economic theory, terminology and principles. Learners study the economics of different countries and how these interrelate.

They also learn to work with simple economics data and to use the tools of economic analysis. Learners apply understanding of economics to current issues.

 Syllabus Content 

The aims of the Economics course are to enable students to:

  • Know and understand economic terminology, concepts and theories
  • Use basic economic numeracy and interpret economic data
  • Use the tools of economic analysis
  • Express economic ideas logically and clearly in a written form
  • Apply economic understanding to current economic issues

​Prior Requirement & ​Hours of Study

  • It is not expected that learners starting IGCSE Economics will have previously studied this subject
  • It is recommended that 130 hours should be dedicated to complete the study of this subject.

Economics Exam Papers

All students sit two examination papers:
​
  • Paper 1:  Multiple Choice 45 minutes (30% of marks)
  • Paper 2: Structured Questions 2 hours 15 minutes (70% of marks)
