Exam Guidelines & Adminstration

What you will need to book an exam

  • Private candidates applying to sit a Cambridge IGCSE exam in a registered centre need to have all the necessary information ready.  It’s important that you have all the right information to hand to make sure you can get your exam place booked smoothly.

  • You’ll need to have the right exam code for the papers you want to sit.  On Latham Online it can be found on the Exam Papers section of the subject pages eg. for Biology it is Course codes: 0970 (1-9), 0610 (*A-G).  When you are booking for a place at an exam centre it could also be referred to as a syllabus, specification, or entry code.

  • You need to also say whether you will be sitting the Core or Extended paper

  • The Exams Officer at the centre will also need the candidate's:
    1.  Full name and date of birth (these will need to be verified with ID)
    2. Address and contact details
    3. The Unique Learner Number (ULN)

  • Anybody who has previously sat Cambridge IGCSEs before will already have a ULN.  This is a 10 digit reference number which Cambridge Examinations assigns to anyone over the age of 14 who is involved in their exams. It can be found on any previous qualification certificates.  If this is the first time you, or your child, is registering for exams, don’t worry, a ULN will be allocated by the exam board.

  • Always ask in advance what proof of identity will be accepted so you can make sure you’ll be able to provide it. Exam centres usually ask for a current passport, but if you don’t have one you may be able to use another photo ID such as a national ID card, or a valid driver’s license.

  • You’ll usually be required to make your payment when you book your place.  You should be aware that as the exam centre will have incurred costs to enter you into the exam, you may not receive a full refund should you decide to withdraw at a later date.

Exam Entry Administration

  • Be ready with the full amount to pay the examination entry fee for each of the subjects that your child, or you, are applying to sit.
  •  On receipt of your entry, your centre will issue you with a ‘Statement of Entry’. Check carefully that the information there is correct. Contact the centre at once if it is not.
  • If your child requires access arrangements, make sure your chosen centre is aware of this.  They will advise you of the evidence they will need to submit.
  • Make sure you have the published timetable for your exams.
  • Ask the Exams Officer exactly where - building and room -you be sitting the exams, what time you must arrive at the exam room for each of your exams.  Are the starting times different to the published timetable?
  • Find out the venue, date and starting times of any speaking test or other controlled assessment sessions that are not shown on your timetable or statement of entry.
