Subject Information

​The Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies syllabus develops learners' understanding of business activity in the public and private sectors, and the importance of innovation and change. 

Learners not only study business concepts and techniques but also enhance related skills such as numeracy and enquiry. The syllabus provides both a foundation for further study at Cambridge International A Level and Higher Level in the IB Diploma.

Syllabus Content

​Learners study the following topics:
  • Understanding business activity
  • People in business
  • Marketing
  • Operations management
  • Financial information and decisions
  • External influences on business activity

Business Studies Exam Papers

All students sit two examination papers
  • Paper 1:  Short Answer and Data Response 1 hour 30 minutes (50% of marks)
  • ​Paper 2: Case Study 1 hour 30 minutes (50% of marks)

Prior Learning & Hours of Study

  • It is not expected that learners starting IGCSE Business Studies will have previously studied this subject.
  • It is recommended that 130 hours should be dedicated to complete the study of this subject.
